The project is implemented at OJSC "Solombala Sawmill and Woodworking Plant" (SSWP) in Arkhangelsk.
The project envisages construction of a 18 MW biofuel hot-water boiler house. The boiler house has three URBAS boilers (Austria), 6 MW each. The boiler house is fuelled with bark and sawdust. Bark and wood wastes (BWW) are supplied from the company's in-house sawmilling and woodworking shops. The boiler house is located at production site No.2 of SSWP. Heat from the boiler house is supplied to end-users located at the same produciton site, via existing heat distribution networks.
The project ensures almost complete utilization of SSWP's bark and wood wastes which would be otherwise disposed at the dump; the project also results in termination of heavy fuel oil combustion in the Plant’s old boiler houses and in mitigation of negative environmental impact.
Greenhouse gas emission reductions due to the project at Solombala SWP are achieved through reduction in fossil fuel (heavy fuel oil) combustion and prevention of anaerobic decay of BWW at dumps.
Expected emission reductions over 2008-2012 – 189 kt ÑÎ2e
