The project is implemented at OJSC "Ilim Group" Branch in the town of Ust-Ilimsk (the former Ust Ilimsk Timber Processing Complex), that accounts for about 30% of market pulp production in Russia.
The central project measure is installation of coolers for bleaching waste streams – four plate heat exchangers manufactured by "Alfa Laval" with the total thermal capacity of about 50 MW, designed for cooling of acid and alkaline streams at two bleached pulp production lines. The project also involves replacement of several heat exchangers for digesters. The project implementation was started in 2005. The works are planned to be completed in 2010.
The project results in setting up an additional water heating stage, some heat of the bleaching waste streams is returned to the process cycle of pulp production thus reducing the heating steam demand and consumption of fresh water, which is added to the waste streams to lower their temperature before feeding them to the treatment facilities.
Due to the project steam consumption at the nearby coal-fired Ust-Ilimsk CHPP (OJSC "Irkutskenergo") is reduced which leads to reduction of greenhouse gase and pollutant emissions from coal combustion.
Expected emission reductions in 2008-2012 – 750 kt ÑÎ2e
