The project is implemented at OJSC "Ilim Group" Branch in the town of Ust-Ilimsk (the former Ust Ilimsk Timber Processing Complex), that accounts for about 30% of market pulp production in Russia.
The project is aimed at improvement of efficiency and increase of bark and wood wastes (BWW) consumption for production of heat and electricity for auxiliary needs of the Branch through reconstruction of utilizing boiler No.1 of KM-75-40 type and through switching it to fluidized bed combustion of BWW. The reconstructed boiler was put into operation in 2002.
The implementation of the project made it possible to utilize almost all BWW available, thus avoiding their disposal at the dump, and to increase heat and electricity supply from the Mill’s own THPP with the respective substitution of energy supplies from the nearby Ust-Ilimsk CHPP (OJSC "Irkutskenergo").
The greenhouse gas emission reductions are ensured by reduction of coal combustion at Ust-Ilimsk CHPP and by reduction of methane emissions from anaerobic decay of BWW at the dump.
Expected emission reductions over 2008-2012 – 613 kt ÑÎ2e
